Reconstruction after Mohs Surgery

Mohs surgery is microscopically controlled excision of skin cancer (usually by a Dermatologist such as Dr Derek Davies in Bowral), usually done under local anaesthetic. It has high cure rates for skin cancer and enables the skin cancer to be removed in full with less damage to the healthy skin in the surrounding area.

Dr Safvat then performs reconstructive surgery (usually with a skin flap or occasionally skin graft) to ensure the best possible aesthetic outcome with specialist reconstruction

A skin flap is when tissue from the same area is rearranged to cover the Mohs wound and a skin graft is when a thin piece of skin is taken from another part of the body and used to reconstruct the Mohs wound.

The reconstruction is usually done under local anaesthetic and sedation.

The Mohs surgery with Reconstructive Surgery is performed in conjunction with a Dermatologist. Dr Safvat does this procedure at Southern Highlands Private Hospital in Bowral.
