25 Sep 2019 Who Can Benefit from Liposuction?
Even the most disciplined of meal plans and targeted workout programs may not be able to eliminate those stubborn pockets of fat on our body. This is where the liposuction procedure can prove to be helpful in helping to trim, tone and get rid of areas of stubborn fat. This procedure is not a weight loss procedure, but a body contouring procedure.
What are the types of body fat?
Broadly speaking, there are two types of fat on our bodies.
Visceral fat is the body fat that you can’t see on the body. It’s the fat that tends to surround the organs, for example, inside your abdomen and it is more prevalent in those who have unhealthy lifestyle. Liposuction cannot address this type of fat. Positive changes in lifestyle and doing more physical activity can help to reduce this type of fat.
Subcutaneous fat is the fat that you can see on your body and sits just beneath the skin. This body fat can also be reduced with diet and exercise but sometimes more difficult to shake. It can then be addressed with liposuction.
Should I have Liposuction to loose weight?
Liposuction should not be considered a treatment for obesity or a substitute for weight loss. It should not be used to decrease your number on the scales. Ideally, people should lose as much body fat with diet and exercise and keep liposuction for stubborn areas that do not respond.
Which parts of my body can benefit from Liposuction?
There are many areas of the body that can benefit with liposuction where there are stubborn areas of body fat that can’t be addressed with diet and exercise. Some of these areas may include the following:
- Stomach
- Buttocks
- Upper arms
- Chest
- Back
- Hips
- Thighs
- Under chin and neck
Are there other benefits of liposuction?
There are also some additional benefits to this elective procedure, including the following:
- Treating gynaecomastia. This condition is where fat grows under the breasts of a man so that his silhouette is much less masculine, which can lead to a drop in self-confidence. Liposuction can help to restore a more masculine contour to his chest.
- Liposuction can often be combined with other cosmetic procedures. Liposuction can improve the results of a tummy tuck, breast reduction, breast reconstruction, brachioplasty, thigh lift and body lift.
Liposuction can remove unwanted fat deposits which are resistant to exercise and diet and can enhance how you look and feel about your body.
